The Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ and Tape Cap Kit TC-3™ have been specifically engineered and constructed to meet UL 1439. For nearly 50 years, we have manufactured and sold the highest quality handheld tester to customers around the world. Made in the USA from the highest quality components, our customers trust the durability and reliability of our products.

Each SET-50™ comes with a user’s manual, certificate of compliance, and one tape cap. The product includes a one-year warranty (from date of purchase) with an option to add an extended five-year warranty. Please note that all testers are serialized and factory sealed. Tampering with the tool voids the warranty.

How Does the SET-50™ work?

Using the Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ is simple. Run the tester 50 or more mm (2 or more inches) along the edge of the subject item and then back to its starting position without the removal of the tester from the edge. Per UL 1439, the tester and corresponding tape caps are calibrated with a force to simulate human touch. As a result, a dangerously sharp edge will cut through the two outer layers of the TC-3™ cap sensing tape, visibly exposing the lowest layer of tape (black). Counterfeits and Knockoffs

Third-party marketplaces are full of cheap, imitation sharp edge testing tools. They are designed to look like the SET-50™ but are made abroad with inferior materials. Some of these counterfeit tools will even use our company model number and contact info to make them appear legitimate. However, there is no guarantee these counterfeit tools help achieve UL 1439 safety standards.

Does the Sharp Edge Tester solution meet UL 1439?

Yes, the Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ and the Tape Cap Kit TC-3™ were designed upon specific request of Underwriters Laboratories to meet this standard.

The Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ comes with one tape cap, do I still need to order the Tape Cap Kit TC-3™?

Yes, the tape caps are consumable components of the testing process. During the testing process, the tape cap may score a failing result (when a sharp edge cuts through the sensing layers). Additionally, after numerous passing results, the tape on the testing cap will eventually wear out. As a result, it is important to have multiple tape caps on hand, especially during assembly line quality testing.

Each Tape Cap Kit TC-3™ box, consists of 44 precision made pieces to support routine testing activities.

What kinds of materials can be tested?

The Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ is designed to exert a specific amount of pressure on the item in order to provide consistent and accurate results. As a result, items with metal, glass and hard plastic edges make the best test subjects.

How often should I have my SET-50™ recalibrated?

We recommend that you have your SET-50™ recalibrated every year. There are two options for this:

1. Manufacturer Calibration
– Ship us your tool (we will provide details on lead time, shipping information, and payment).
– We will recalibrate your tester and provide you with an updated certificate.
– The cost of the calibration service is $50 USD plus return shipping (plus duties or taxes for International customers).

2. Local Lab Calibration
– Take your tool and the User’s Manual to a local calibration laboratory.
– Our Calibration Guide contains details on the calibration specifications and instructions.

How can I get my SET-50™ repaired?

It is very rare for one of our tools to have an issue. However, if a SET-50™ requires service within the one-year warranty period, we will repair (or replace) it at no cost to you (except for the shipping costs). Please note than an optional five-year extended warranty is available for all tools sold within the last 2 years.

If a tester requires service outside of warranty, there will be a fee (plus shipping costs) for the parts and labor necessary to properly perform the repair. This typically involves a physical inspection of the tool. Prior to performing any repairs we will provide details and obtain approval for the work and related costs.

Where should I store my Sharp Edge Tester and Tape Caps?

When not being used, your Sharp Edge Tester SET-50™ and Tape Cap Kit TC-3™ should be stored in a cool, dry location.

What types of payment methods do you accept?

Via our website, we accept credit cards, PayPal, Venmo, or direct bank transfers. Payment must be received prior to fulfillment of any order.

We have additional payment options available for larger customers and certain (less common) situations. Please get in touch (or email info@saferedges.com) directly to discuss any non-standard payment requirements.

How are shipping charges calculated?

We ship exclusively through FedEx. Once you have selected the quantities of each product you would like to order, you will be able to select your choice of the FedEx delivery method during the checkout process. For US customers this includes 2 Day, Express Saver, Ground, and Home Delivery. For our International customers options include International Priority and International Economy. The selected shipping method and corresponding cost will be automatically filled in on the order form.

When will I receive my order?

Once your payment clears our bank, your order will typically be processed and shipped within 1 to 3 business days.

How can I get a pro forma invoice?

Can I arrange for an alternate shipping provider?

For some destinations we can accommodate other shipping providers. This typically invoices coordinating pickup with your carrier of choice using customer provided shipping labels and customs paperwork. Please get in touch directly or include the relevant information in our quote form.

What are your international Incoterms?

DAP – Delivered At Place. (Customer is responsible for paying duties and taxes.)
EXW – Ex-Works. Only used if you have arranged for an alternate shipping provider (see above) and fill out our quote form.
